Sorry to drag this up again, but by now someone must have figured out how to make iSub work on an Intel based Mac ! Apple still sell these things so unless there are lots of people not going to upgrade to Intel or go passed OSX 3.9 there must be away of getting them to work !!??

My iSub has been with me from my iMac 400DV and eMac 1.25 and I still love it and want to use it.

Strange ! the UK on-line Apple store still sells the Harman Kardon Soundsticks II 2.1 speakers (£129.00) and in the pic it looks like iSub is the sub woofer that comes with them !!??

Anywho will keep on lookin' around.

The subwoofer which comes with the Soundsticks looks like, but is not identical to the iSub.

I had to buy new external speakers and a Griffin iMic in order to be able to use my iSub with my Intel iMac. In retrospect, it might have been easier and better to buy a new subwoofer... but I was annoyed and too stubborn.

Specifically, the subwoofer that comes with the Soundsticks has built in amplifiers for the Soundsticks and the woofer, and connects to the computer's audio out via a sub minature phono plug.

The iSub has a built in amplifier for the woofer only, and connects to Mac via a USB port. Thus the need for updated USB drivers.

Before we put this subject to rest, here's something I discovered. Unwilling to cry "uncle" when I bought my Intel 2 Core Duo, I plugged my iSub into the USB port anyway. Of course, it doesn't work-- my System Preferences doesn't recognize it--but my Apple System Profiler does. So on some level, my Mac DOES know it's there. Just can't get the profiler to communicate with System Prefs.

Here's where it gets really interesting: I downloaded Boot Camp so I could partition my hard drive and run Windows games. I loaded Windows XP with Service Pack 2--and when it booted up, my iSub came to life! It doesn't work when my husband is playing his Civilization game, but when he shuts down Windows to switch back to the Mac side, the iSub comes to life again.

Call me a die hard, but I'm not giving up just yet. If it can work in Windows, it should be able to work in Mac with the right configuration. Hope there's some wizard out there who can seize on this and run with it!

I think you are in luck (sort of). A page on the Apple web site says that the isub will only work on intel systems if you are using USB speakers or a USB audio interface.
