Since I bought my iMac G5 - now with 10.5.5- I have NEVER been able to get my Keychains to permanently accept any input. Now that my ISP insists on a SSL connection, I enter my password but it is not accepted.

Any suggestions?

If running Keychain Repair, found on the Keychain Access menues, doesn't solve the problem, then use Keychain Access to create a new Keychain, make the new keychain the default, then copy the entries from the old keychain to the new (you have to do it one at a time entering the keychain password each time).

Thanks, Joe.

Should I delete the old keychain after copying the passwords?

Once you're certain that that you've transferred all of your data correctly and that your new keychain works you can trash your old one.

one of the forums I use, rixstep, specifically asks me to *not ever* put their password in my keychain (for ftp) because, they contend, that keychain has problems regarding the excessive polling of sites that resembles a denial of service attack.
so it is prolly a good idea to kill an old keychain. you might save bandwidth.
