I did a migration from a time machine backup. Now the permissions are messed up on my boot drive and I do not know how to boot from something else to use disk utility to repair permissions on this drive. I have a leopard install DVD but I am not sure how to boot from it. The install menu always comes up. Can I make a partition on an external hard drive to boot from? Can I boot from the tech tool disk? I am trying to avoid a trip to the genius bar.

Thanks

Boot from your Leopard disc while depressing "C," and then select your language to get to the second screen.

You should then see "Utilities," one of which will be Disk Utility, in your menu bar.
